About Adv. Asif Shaukat Qureshi
My Family
I was born on 30th December 1965 to a middle class family. As a son of a dedicated Congress soldier, I was exposed to the legal and political world at an early age. My father led by example, and I learnt sacrifice, bravery, and selfless devotion for the country and its people from my father’s knee. My father was General Secretary, MPCC & Vice Chairman of Central Haj committee, as well as an active participant of the Indian National Congress.
The Early Years
As they say, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I was an active member of the Indian Junior Chamber, participating with zeal and sincerity in all its projects to earn many State and National awards. I then had the opportunity to be the President of this prestigious organization.
The Formative Years
Pursuing my dream of becoming an advocate, I graduated in Law and started my practice in 1994. My political ambitions were driven and inspired by the work, thoughts, and style of the Late Shri. Rajiv Gandhi. I felt, and still feel most aligned to principles, people, and organizations, where the core philosophy is that of equalization and helping the poor get justice. To realize these dreams, I actively participated in the political and social gatherings and conventions of N.S.U.I. and Indian Youth Congress.
On The Road of Law
As a successful Litigator and Public Prosecutor, I have taken up over 500 cases, seeing several challenging cases to their logical conclusions. My acumen was recognized by the Government of Maharashtra, and I was appointed as the Additional Public Prosecutor. Subsequently, I was entrusted with the position of District Government Pleader for Nagpur District Court. As the youngest Lawyer to hold such a prestigious position, I was challenged on different levels and my professional growth was immense.
Bolstered by this success, I soon contested in the 2014-2015 election of the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa. I was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa with a thumping majority representing 1,65,000 Lawyers from the two states. I was elected in the first attempt for a position that is considered to be the most coveted in the Legal Fraternity in Western India.
Considering my several contributions, the Government of Maharashtra has also appointed me as the Member of the Maharashtra State Board of Waqf. Currently, I am also the State Trainer of the Indian Junior Chamber.
